Free SKILL.md builder for Claude Code skills
A Claude Code skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file in it. The YAML front matter at the top (name and description) is what Claude reads to decide when to use the skill; the body is the recipe it follows once it does. Fill in the form, then save the result as ~/.claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md (available in every project) or .claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md inside one project.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Tips for skills Claude actually picks up
- The description does the triggering. Claude sees only the name and description until it decides to load a skill, so say both what it does and when to use it, using the words you'd naturally type.
- One job per skill. "Weekly client update" beats "client admin". Narrow skills trigger reliably and are easier to fix.
- Steps, not essays. Short numbered steps are easier for Claude to follow than paragraphs of advice.
- Put long reference material in separate files in the same folder (for example
template.md) and point to them from a step, so they're read only when needed. - Test with a real request. Start a new session, ask for the task in your own words, and check that Claude reaches for the skill. If it doesn't, add those words to the description.
Already have a SKILL.md? Check it with the SKILL.md validator, or score just the description against sample asks with the skill description tester. Want a specialist that runs the skill in its own context? Wrap it in a subagent with the subagent builder. Pairs well with the CLAUDE.md generator: CLAUDE.md holds what's always true about your business, and skills hold the repeatable jobs.
Unsure whether this should be a skill, a CLAUDE.md note, or a hook? Read CLAUDE.md vs skills vs hooks: which goes where.
